I can’t believe I haven’t seen this before, although I know a lot of the cultural references to it, of course. And I knew all but maybe two of the songs, without actually knowing the context of them in the story. It sort of boggled my mind how watching the movie brought everything together!
But aside from that, it’s also a really good musical movie. The leads are all fantastic (Richard Gere sings and dances… who knew?) and the story is very well told, dipping in and out of the dance numbers whilst shining a light on the fickleness of the media and the gossiping public.
Really good work!
