There was so much hype around this film, and it looked so good in trailers and early reviews, that we were pretty keen to watch it. From the very opening scenes, you can tell it was a finely crafted piece of art, with some exquisite shots and intense acting, high emotions and beautiful imagery.
But actually that’s all it was for me. I didn’t connect with any of the characters, none of them seemed particularly nice or sympathetic at all. Sure Downey wanted what was best for his dad, but his dad went above and beyond the stubborn-ness you should be expected to deal with. I was with it until about halfway through, I so wanted to get invested in this family, but in the end they all just frustrated me.
It’s worth watching, though, if only to see the view from that diner window.
