This Christmas, the unforgettable pupils of St. Bernadette's are heading to Wales to compete in the National Choir Contest; 'A Song for Christmas'. New supply teacher Mr Peterson has the unenviable task of trying to curb the hysterical enthusiasm of the kids - not to mention Mr Poppy - but reluctantly finds himself getting swept along. Over land and water, charting mountains and caves and with a donkey in tow, the gang learn to conquer their fears and work as a team in their quest to get to the competition in time.

Time Comment
1:11 David Tennant in a Christmas jumper!
2:13 Mr Maddens went to America, yay for that.
4:32 Why is the child reading a newspaper in class?
9:47 Earnest children singing is slightly terrifying.
14:28 “Thou shalt not pass.” Weird coming from an elf.
17:50 She betrayed the hat!
20:01 Kids trying to breakdance is endlessly funny.
22:12 Hobbit snowglobe!
26:39 “Everything is about the money.”
29:30 They’ve got berets and scarves now. And a bus that is not also a boat.
35:11 I do like his habit of referring to people as caller.
39:34 “It’s not a sign, it’s a donkey.”
43:02 Having the name Shakespeare allows you to say “I’m Shakespeare.” That’s fun.
50:18 These films are ridiculous but I like the bits where they are nice to the kids.
55:44 David Tennant playing good and bad characters equally well.
1:02:44 That Pixie kid is insanely cute even before you put sheep ears on her.
1:07:09 As stupid as it gets, I like the vague grounding in reality. “Not really!”
1:12:21 Record a record.
1:16:01 He even looks like Justin Beiber. Or Jason.
1:19:03 I’m impressed by the number of original songs that have to be written for this.
1:21:56 Mawkish is an excellent word.
1:27:01 You’ve never seen anyone sing “peace and joy” with such venom.
1:28:37 Shakespeare’s globe. Amazing.
1:39:11 I don’t wanna nitpick but those babies are far too big to be twins.

Conclusions

Actually a bit of a disappointment. Considering we only watched Nativity so we could get to this one, the first film was leaps and bounds better. There wasn’t the same sort of story here, rather than a nice somewhat simple tale of a lie spinning out of control, instead we have David Tennant chasing kids across the hills and valleys of rural Wales. Very odd. The danger levels were much higher, and there was far more yelling and screaming.

It was entertaining in a couple of places. Jessica Hynes was brilliant, and I liked that there was a third element in the big rivalry between kids classes. An okay film, but not the best.
