Thoughts
I’ve been wanting to watch this since Apple TV+ released it on their streaming platform, but was waiting for the right moment - I knew it was going to be a bit of an emotional watch, so the mood had to be right. I’m so annoyed I waited so long, because it’s brilliant!
And yes, it’s emotional, and it’s a bit corny in places, and oof the songs have to do a lot of heavy-lifting in terms of telling the story, but what an incredible piece of work. It’s funnier than I was expecting, and the staging was mind-blowing - so many characters with so few people, and they do so much with just a turntable, a hole in the wall, and a bunch of chairs. Amazing.
I don’t know that it’s a musical I’d go back to again and again for the songs, outside of I Am Here and Me and the Sky, I didn’t fell like there was a lot to hook into. But it will be worth watching over and again for sure.
