1:10 The pyramids in scale with normal buildings really are insane.
2:45 How come these people painted gold don’t suffer the same fate as the lady in Goldfinger?
5:54 It’s a lot of backstory, this.
6:36 Loving the Tomb Raider seals and stuff though.
13:45 Who sets up their bookcases in a domino rally, really?
14:28 “When Rameses destroyed Syria, that was an accident. You are a catastrophe.”
17:19 Should we ask why he’s Scottish and she’s not?
24:16 Flim-flam.
26:50 “What do you think’s out there?” “In a word: evil.”
33:38 That wrong side of the river quote, me and my friend used to say that to each other all the time.
38:26 Camels are cute when they run!
47:21 Eww the bug thing is so gross.
57:20 “Who cares about a book, where’s the treasure?” Books are treasures though.
1:02:23 I do feel bad for the guy with the broken glasses.
1:13:52 Pretty much John Hannah’s entire role in this is to run into a room and screech to a halt because something scary is happening inside.
1:22:23 “Get your ugly face off her.”
1:28:27 Her correcting his translation in the face of sacrifice is brilliant.
1:50:03 Oh cos he’s a pickpocket like at the beginning! That’s clever.

I remember really liking this when I was younger but I haven’t seen it in ages and it was curious seeing how it stands the test of time. It takes quite a long time to get going, the movie, particularly with the history class at the beginning that turns into the battle sequence that is still a couple of years behind where the actual story starts.

But once it gets going, it’s fun. I like the mix of comedy and occasional jump scares and action/adventure, although sometimes you get the feeling the film doesn’t quite know what it’s trying to be and therefore it doesn’t quite do them all successfully. There are some really quite scary moments in there, though!

Some of the special effects are better than others, with the water and smoke particularly difficult, but the mummy itself very good. An interesting one to watch from 20 years on.
