“Former FBI Hostage Rescue Team leader and U.S. war veteran Will Sawyer (Dwayne Johnson) now assesses security for skyscrapers. He’s on assignment in China when he finds the tallest, safest building in the world suddenly ablaze, and he’s been framed for it. A wanted man on the run, Will must find those responsible, clear his name and somehow rescue his family, who are trapped inside the building, above the fire line.”
2:44 – That’s not a subtle way of trying to end a kidnap situation.
4:24 – Forgot Neve was in this. Incredz.
4:53 – You can’t fool me, that skyscraper isn’t real – I’ve seen the Apple screensaver.
7:20 – They make a weird couple… also, she hasn’t aged at all.
9:50 – I’m sorry, what now? There’s a night time panda feeding?
14:11 – Loving all the suspicious looks.
15:57 – No no no no no, I don’t want to stand on invisible floors.
22:26 – “I’m a king.” Yea, you are girl! Rock on.
29:11 – They couldn’t have used his face if the tablet had been in the bag though.
32:07 – First job, kill the alarm, right? Pleeeease?
32:28 – Like how the mission control has the building on its side, presumably because it’s too tall to have standing up.
38:12 – Never admit to being the only one who can do something. Bang bang bye bye.
41:55 – He’s gone all Tomb Raider! Holy moly.
46:01 – The juuuump is coming!
53:02 – Uh.. they just gaffa taped The Rock back together.
56:05 – They are an effective team.
1:00:32 – I mean, she’s awesome but also dumb. Have your hand on the handle. And don’t bother counting, just watch the floor numbers or the fact there’s no more fire.
1:08:46 – Gaffa tape fixes everything but I draw the line at it fixing a human to the side of a shiny building.
1:12:10 – The noise of the turbine sounds JUST like the noise in Contact. Weird.
1:17:40 – At what point should we worry about the structural integrity of this building?
1:27:23 – She has legit switched it off and on again!!
Thoughts on this one: The trailer makes it look terrible, but actually it’s a really good film. Don’t get me wrong, it’s derivative of everything and barely has an original idea in there, but it’s still very entertaining and a very well-made adventure. Sometimes you just want to watch a film like Die Hard.
The cast were all really good, even the kids where usually children in these things can veer to the annoying side. And I loved the building, the technology within it, and the fact that the creator didn’t back down. I didn’t want it to end up as a slight on technology – terrorists can take anything down if they put their mind to it.
So, enjoyable film, highly recommended and would be a 5 out of 5 except for two major issues:
- The Rock’s jump is just silly.
- And the massive plot hole of the fact that if the baddie’s plan had gone how they wanted, they would have had the tablet without any access because they didn’t also take his face.
