“Winner of the first Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, Shrek sparked a motion picture phenomenon and captured the world’s imagination with… the Greatest Fairy Tale Never Told! Shrek (Mike Myers) goes on a quest to rescue the feisty Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz) with the help of his loveable Donkey (Eddie Murphy) and win back the deed to his swamp from scheming Lord Farquaad.”
1:03 – “Fearful sort” is a nice turn of phrase.
2:49 – Chooooon. All that glitters is gooooold.
5:48 – I need to know more about Pinocchio I think.
8:18 – “Mwan, green, fighting machine.”
14:46 – “He huffed and he puffed and he signed an eviction notice.”
17:11 – “Not my gum drop buttons!”
24:115 – Joan Jett choonage! Dude!
26:07 – This Mike Myers Scottish accent makes me think of “baby back ribs.”
30:07 – “We wear our fear out there on our sleeves.”
32:12 – This has gone very Tomb Raider.
37:35 – “I have to save my ass.” How do kids get this?
45:46 – Bark door or stone door, take your pick.
47:59 – To be fair, I did judge him before I knew him.
50:19 – This film is quite sadistic, really.
51:53 – French Robin Hood?
55:35 – Fainting donkey.
58:03 – “I think I need a hug.” Adorable!
1:05:01 – “What’s the point in being able to talk if you’ve got to keep secrets?”
1;10:44 – That fire was rubbish. Really enjoying evaluating the rendering.
1:18:47 – I’m taking exception to the fact that ogre basically means fatter. Green, sure, but basically fatter.
1:20:18 – Woah, the princess is regenerating.
Somehow I’ve never seen this before, but it was quite entertaining as it goes. I’ll admit we had enjoyed a glass or two of wine as we settled in to watch something, anything, to get Mammia Mia out of our minds.
The animation hasn’t really aged so well but it was one of those early and quite groundbreaking films so can’t hold that against it, really. A great voice cast, and lots of inside jokes and bits and pieces aimed at adults rather than kids, so yea. Totally fine.
