Title: The Lion King
Director: Roger Allers, Rob Minkoff
Run time: 1hr 28m
“Embark on an extraordinary coming-of-age adventure as Simba, a lion cub who cannot wait to be king, searches for his destiny in the great “Circle of Life.” You will be thrilled by the breathtaking animation, unforgettable Academy Award–winning music (1994: Best original score; best song, “Can You Feel The Love Tonight”), and timeless story.”
1:37 – God the songs are so good.
3:08 – Little fluffy lion is cute. They grow up to be quite scary though.
5:28 – I always forget Rowan Atkinson is a voice in this.
8:35 – “Before sunrise, he’s your son.”
12:43 – So clever how they make Scar mean looking. Green eyes, scary claws. Black mane.
16:01 – Flamingoes!
19:42 – Those hyenas are properly creepy.
24:24 – “Being brave doesn’t mean you go looking for trouble.”
31:47 – Do kids know “prepare for the coup of the century” means?
33:12 – They do move in herds.
40:39 – He maybe should have left it a day or two before bringing out the hyenas. Break ’em in gently.
44:00 – “Lie down before you hurt yourself.”
49:02 – Is that “it’s a small world after all” thing a reference to Disney World?
56:16 – Is that the woman from The Cutting Edge? OMG!
56:50 – “Lady, have you got your lions crossed?”
1:01:59 – “Sometimes bad things happen and there’s nothing you can do about it, so why worry?” I know he’s disappointing her but I’m so down with that.
1:04:46 – Conversations you have whilst watching the Lion King: “No, no, no. Matthew Broderick is the lion, not the monkey.”
1:08:28 – The monkey is Yoda!
1:17:53 – PIG RAGE!
1:23:29 – It is a circle. Of life. Amazing.
1:25:12 – Can You Feel The Love Tonight. This song just breaks me.
This is one of the better Disney animations, it’s basically a perfect movie. Incredible cast, moving and brilliant story, lots of laughs but some dark moments too, and a great message to take home. And that’s all before we even talk about the music, wherein every single song is brilliant.
I had truly forgotten that there is such a good cast in this, apart from Mufasa, obviously. Matthew Broderick, Whoopi Goldberg and even the woman from The Cutting Edge! Incredible.
