Title: Mr. Right
Director: Paco Cabezas
Run time: 1hr 35m
“The road to true love is paved with knives and bullets in this killer comedy starring Anna Kendrick and Sam Rockwell. Unlucky in love and with terrible taste in men, Martha (Kendrick) bumps into Francis (Rockwell) and finally meets the man of her dreams. Sweet and charming, he seems the perfect match until Martha discovers Francis is a world-class assassin whose enemies are trying to kill him and can’t quite decide as body counts rise whether to join in the mayhem or dump him. Also starring Tim Roth, Anson Mount and the Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA, Mr. Right is a rollicking romp bursting with action and laughs!”
1:16 – Don’t make Anna throw a knife around, oof, the danger.
2:40 – However she appears to have superb throwing skills. Wine bottle!
8:15 – “Who shoots cake?”
9:18 – She is an EXHAUSTING friend.
10:34 – Suckball McGee!
10:39 – “You’re just a work in progress, babe.”
15:43 – Haha, or else, that is so creepy.
17:02 – I love them both, they are insane.
19:14 – I like that he’s telling her the truth, but she’s not even registering it.
26:45 – CAN you fry whipped cream?
35:13 – It is freaky that he won’t tell her his name, though, that really should be a red flag.
38:08 – Curious how they filmed the knife throwing game.
43:53 – Love that he kills people but his chosen swearword is fudge.
51:54 – Shotgun isn’t a subtle weapon either And if Tomb Raider is anything to go by, it’s slow, slow, slow.
59:36 – “Thank you for not taking me hostage.”
1:09:22 – Love that she’s not really scared, just Chatty Cathy as always.
1:12:41 – You can’t use psyche in the big final showdown!
1:15:33 – I didn’t know you could put the pin back into grenades?
1:21:16 – Turtle rage!
1:26:05 – “Your eyes are super dilated. Did you get shot in the face?” Much better line than ‘is it raining?’
I knew this was going to be a kooky film but it was even more oddball than I’d expected. That’s not to say it wasn’t good though, or enjoyable. You sort of have to settle into the weirdness, and there’s no way of connecting with these two super-bizarre characters, but once you’re on board, it’s actually great entertainment.
It reminded me a little of True Romance – perhaps not quite so sophisticated, but a story about two weirdos meeting and falling very quickly in love, and then somehow falling into a life of crime that perhaps hadn’t been anticipated initially.
It was short and good, I loved the chemistry between Anna and Sam, and I love them both anyway, so an entertaining watch.
