“Disney’s “Muppets Most Wanted” takes the entire Muppets gang on a global tour, selling out grand theatres in some of Europe’s most exciting destinations, including Berlin, Madrid and London. But mayhem follows the Muppets overseas, as they find themselves unwittingly entangled in an international crime captor headed by Constantine – the World’s Number One Criminal and a dead ringer for Kermit – and his dastardly sidekick Dominic, aka Number Two, portrayed by Ricky Gervais. The film stars Tiny Fey as Nadya, a feisty prison guard, and Ty Burrell as Interpol agent Jean Pierre Napoleon.”

3:02 – It’s always hard to know if it’s really Lady Gaga, she’s such a caricature of herself.
6:52 – “Dominic Badguy?” It’s French.
9:52 – Where IS the world capital of comedy? I mean, clearly not Berlin.
12:05 – Indoor running of the bulls sounds like potentially the worst thing ever.
13:59 – “What about being involved in the decision to get married in the first place?”
15:56 – Constantine is like a ninja frog.
20:50 – Hehehe, sneaky Office dancing.
25:53 – A badge on his chest! Kinda like Superman.
26:56 – Ha! Love the badge competition.
33:56 – I have that issue with lights on/lights out.
43:33 – Aw, he left Fonzie hanging.
46:37 – “Wow, those are big badges.”
48:57 – “They are incapable of being culpable.”
55:06 – Moooooon!
55:40 – The train really, really doesn’t go from Madrid to Dublin.
58:22 – I need that actual idea lightbulb above my head.
1:03:22 – “The show must… continue… in a timely fashion.”
1:11:19 – A pink frog and a green pig? That’s all kinds of wrong.
1:20:06 – Marpets.
1:22:20 – These muppet baby things are terrifying.
1:31:11 – See, they should have practiced the muppet ladder.
1:31:49 – Excellent Miss Piggy rage.
1:39:33 – Animal makes the best firework ever.

Conclusions

We needed some light relief after the horrors of Indiana Jones, and thus the Muppets sequel seemed like a good plan. Mr C wasn’t a huge fan of the last one, muppets and singing and that kind of thing, but he was keen on anything other than snakes.

I liked it, but I didn’t think it was good as the first one. They said themselves that sequels are usually not as good, and it still had that nice note of self-awareness, but in the end, it wasn’t as good no matter how aware of that it was. The story didn’t really hold up as well as I’d hoped, and the human characters weren’t quite as strong. Presumably Ricky was hired due to his skit with Elmo, but of course in an actual film, with a script to stick to, the magic wasn’t there.

I did enjoy the French policeman working alongside Sam Eagle. Their badge fight was brilliant.
