Title: Jack Reacher
Director: Christopher McQuarrie
Run time: 2hrs 10m
I am one of those that has read the books and felt a bit aggrieved that Tom Cruise was cast in this role. It really isn’t right at all, but hey, I haven’t read any of the books for a long while and was ready to go in with an open mind and an eye for some action and adventure.
4:42 – Interesting to hear him breathing through this. Very controlled.
5:52 – Terrifying start to a film.
10:10 – Being a ghost sounds excellent. Totally off the grid. Except… do you still get to use Google?
11:51 – “You don’t find this guy unless he wants to be found.”
20:17 – Rosamund’s accent takes a few odd turns here and there.
29:16 – The parking thing! Mr C picked up on that.
31:46 – Saying someone doesn’t look like their name isn’t really a good conversation starter, is it?
33:59 – Cruise’s lack of height is a bit obvious in this fight scene.
36:22 – “I’m starting to understand why you move around a lot, Reacher.”
45:06 – Yea, why was Reacher up on the highway?
48:50 – Is that physically possible? My teeth aren’t strong enough for that.
50:51 – So clever. THE auto-parts store.
54:45 – Yay for use of the word whimsy.
59:55 – Boy he’s not afraid of fighting dirty.
1:03:27 – That explains the highway.
1:11:17 – It worries me that they’re hanging about next to the big ol’ glass window.
1:16:55 – It bugs me when they “accidentally” leave the body uncovered so someone can see. Like they would not give them the dignity of being covered up.
1:19:15 – I’d say that Reacher’s car is coming off worse in this battle.
1:33:58 – A shooting range is a heck of a noise, isn’t it?
1:36:06 – “It doesn’t matter how much I can prove, it only matters how much of it is true.” I’m not sure that’s how the law works.
1:39:33 – Reacher seems to live by payphones, but they are surely dying out.
1:44:02 – It’s awesome seeing those two together again.
1:53:04 – It’s raining now, that’s always a bad sign.
1:56:21 – Brutal.
2:01:43 – I like they rarely use names. Army. Gunney. Counseller.
I really quite enjoyed it. The one reason I’m not going all out and giving it a full five out of five is because some of the fight scenes were just a bit brutal for my tastes. I know Reacher is above and beyond the law, but these things don’t seem so graphic when you are reading about them. It wasn’t all that bad, it just felt as though he fought dirty too much and I found it distasteful.
That’s my only complaint, which is good because Cruise wasn’t all that bad as the character, the script was intriguing enough, and it was brilliant to see Robert Duvall again.
