Film Watch – 276. Men in Black 3

Fast Facts

Title: Men in Black 3
Director: Barry Sonnenfeld
Year: 2012
Run time: 1hr 46m

Background Info

This is another movie that we had to prepare for – digesting Men in Black the first and the second before this one came out. I’ve liked the past two films, not as much as I had thought in hindsight, but I like Will Smith’s work and they’re a fun watch. This one includes the concept of time travel which, as we know, makes it an automatic must watch for me!

Live Blog

1:24 – Is that Ms Nicole?
1:47 – They don’t do starts with just a bug flying anymore then. People don’t have the attention spans.
3:58 – Fair to say the special effects have improved a bit.
5:40 – Prison on the moon, I like it.
8:50 – All speeches should be like that.
9:37 – Yay for Emma Thompson.
10:48 – “I don’t ask questions I don’t want to know the answer to.”
19:13 – Blimey, their partnership has deteriorated quite considerably!
20:33 – Rogue alien race. Rogue!
22:15 – They go way back, even though we’ve never seen her before!
24:37 – I think when I build a house I would like to have something secret behind a bookcase. Although I don’t really need bookcases.
26:35 – The little mens in black room.
34:27 – “That seems right-ish.” Not what you want to hear when time travelling.
37:49 – The good thing about wearing a black suit, is you sort of fit in wherever.
43:46 – He’s just like him!!
47:41 – “I don’t know if I don’t know nothin’.”
55:38 – The dynamic between them is fun.
1:01:30 – Seeing all possible life alternatives must be exhausting. I like that guy though.
1:05:53 – Trusting the pie is also some advice I can take on board.
1:13:42 – Good to see the bad guy not reacting so well to his future self.
1:21:57 – Bunker!
1:26:20 – There’s some pretty good greenscreening going on there.
1:35:46 – Like the story but does the maths on that work? Is he meant to be 45+?

Conclusions

Ooh, I really enjoyed this, more than I’d anticipated. It starts with bonus Nicole which was a surprise, and then she gets blown out of a window which is even better. Then there was the time travel story which was great, except for the slightly odd bit at the end – Will Smith rewound five minutes to learn how to defeat his enemy, but then didn’t stumble across himself in the same place, not sure about that. Then, there was the incredible Josh Brolin, who was so much like a younger K that I spent most of the film saying how it was freaking me out (Sorry Mr C). Enjoyable stuff.
