Live blog

0:36 – I didn’t know that lion still roared at the beginning of movies.
3:40 – “Not so slim shady.”
4:35 – I need a gun as an alarm for Mr C!
6:17 – I love that they have flashing red and blue lights on their bikes! No siren though.
7:33 – It does have a siren!
10:36 – Recycling stuff and hoping no one notices. The man is not just talking about police work here.
14:13 – “Cherub-looking” is a new way to describe it.
16:26 – His school had a juggling society? Wow!
19:27 – “I remember. Do you know why? Because I’ve told it to a therapist 8,000 times!”
21:08 – They do always cut away on TV before they finish the rights!
26:24 – Oh god, I hated drama.
28:25 – “You never won’t know what you can’t achieve before you don’t achieve it.”
29:41 – I also hated science. Weird.
36:42 – Flux capacitor mention!
38:10 – Never let someone near a cymbal if they’ve taken something!
43:17 – “I think I know the cause. Glee. F*** you, Glee.” Apologies for the stars here, but this is the best line ever.
53:26 – Shuffling!
1:03:26 – Literally choking!
1:06:22 – His Peter Pan costume looks like Robin Hood. All green and tights.
1:10:14 – Dual controls in a car chase is genius.
1:11:50 – Skinny jeans = tights.
1:21:36 – All the big stuff happens at prom.
1:27:09 – They’ve chased or been chased by them twice, they must recognise them!
1:28:52 – Friendship bracelets!
1:31:43 – I think the people upstairs at the prom might have heard that.
1:37:43 – They saved all the budget from the previous explosions for that one.
1:40:17 – They can’t high five either.
1:44:05 – These are some weird ending credits.

Conclusions

The first time I saw this trailer, I turned my nose up and thought it looked a bit stupid. I don’t know of the original, only what Mr C has told me about Johnny Depp and the like. However, I heard an interview with someone, I forget who, and they said they really liked it. So I watched the trailer again and decided to give it a chance.

Massively better than I’d thought it would be, and I laughed a lot more than expected. There was far too much swearing, and the occasional low-humour moment, but I could pass them up for the better things. Scenes where it didn’t take itself too seriously, like the genius setup:

We’re reviving a canceled undercover police program from the ’80s and revamping it for modern times. You see the guys in charge of this stuff lack creativity and are completely out of ideas, so all they do now is recycle s**t from the past and expect us all not to notice.

Also the fabulous twist at the end. The duo worked well together, and it sometimes boggled my mind that Jonah Hill is the same Jonah Hill as in Moneyball. Apparently there’s a sequel in the works. I’ll check that one out, too.

Rating: 5/5.

Be Kind, Rewind – Feb 2016

Argh, loved this so much more on repeat viewings. In fact, I’ve seen it a couple of times and every time it gets better and better. This time in particular, I was staggered by the Straight Outta Compton references, having just genned up on that with the film itself. They played the song, they wrote on the side of the police car, and Ice Cube was right there! A handful of Star Wars references also became more clear to me this time as well.

On top of all that, it’s just a brilliant film, absolutely hilarious from start to finish and the bond between Tatum and Hill gets clearer every time I see it.
